What Is RGM Connect?

RGM Connect is a small-group program at Stowell Learning Center designed for young adults on the autism spectrum who are ready to strengthen their communication, executive functioning, and ability to connect and engage with others.

Using the Ronnie Gardiner Method® (RGM), participants engage in fun, interactive music, rhythm, and movement activities that challenge the brain and body to work together. Through increasingly complex patterns of rhythm, movement, speech, and interaction, participants practice skills they use every day.

Unlike traditional social skills classes, RGM uses the energy and enjoyment of music, combined with rhythm, movement, and coordinated group activities, to create opportunities to practice these skills in real time.

Skills Participants Practice

  • Spontaneous communication and reciprocity: responding, initiating, and engaging more naturally with others
  • Attention and awareness: noticing what's happening around them and responding to visual, auditory, and social cues
  • Executive functioning: planning, initiation, anticipation, mental flexibility, and thinking ahead
  • Social connection: awareness of others, shared activities, and turn-taking
  • Coordination and self-regulation: body awareness, motor planning, timing, and coordinated responses

Who Is RGM Connect For?

RGM Connect is designed for young adults on the autism spectrum who are relatively independent but may struggle with social interaction, spontaneous communication, flexibility, or executive functioning. Participants should have functional spoken language, be able to follow group instructions, and have enough attention, coordination, and self-regulation to take part in structured group activities.

The class is a great fit for young adults who would benefit from becoming more comfortable thinking on their feet, responding to others, adapting to changing situations, and joining group experiences more naturally and confidently. Activities are adapted to each group's abilities and needs while keeping a pace that stays engaging and appropriately challenging.
