Raquel
Dear Jill & Instructors,
My daughter was thought to be working at her skill level while attending 1st and 2nd grade at Seal Beach Elementary school. When she transferred to McGaugh Elementary school in Los Alamitos, she continued to have difficulties in reading. 3rd grade was becoming difficult and she was becoming frustrated, she was bright enough to be memorize her spellings words but would forget what she had learned immediately after taking tests. She was thought to be and diagnose by her pediatrician, special education testing as ADD but in reality she was dyslexic. While trying to find a solution for my daughter difficulty in reading, I spoke to my sister-in-law and she had a friend who was an instructor at SLC, I believe her name was Yvonne. Once your learning institute diagnose our daughter as being dyslexic, she started her sessions in the summer of 1996. When she finished your summer session she was no longer reading at 1st grade level but instead was reading at 5th grade level. By the time Raquel reached High School At Los Alamitos, California she was 4.0 student and ranked 25th in her junior class of 652 students. We move to Reno, Nevada in 2004, Raquel's Senior year and our daughter continued to get straight A's while attending a new school. She graduated in 2005 with 4.0 but was never reconized for her hard work, I guess because we moved to a new state and High School but that never stopped her to be a diligent student. She is currently attending University of Nevada, Reno and will graduate in 2010 as Geological Engineer maintaining a 3.95 grade point average. The techniques that were taught to my daughter as 8 year old still remains as her success tools. She has never given up even if it was difficult. She is a very intelligent young women and has astonished my husband and I. We are so lucky that we found Stowell Learning Center when she was a 3rd grader because without your techniques, I believe she wouldn't have the confidence she has now.
Thank You!
Robert & Christine Minky
PS> I hope her story will continue to give hope to these special children who learned in a different way.
